Thirty National Resistance Movement (NRM) youth leaders from Kabale Municipality on Tuesday stormed the party offices over unpaid campaign facilitation.

In December, the party released 60 Billion Shillings, to enable flag bearers canvass support for President Museveni. The money was meant to boost the party’s support and strength, facilitate the procurement of campaign logistics and materials.

The youth leaders say that each village youth council was expected to receive 50,000 Shillings to enable them to woo support for party flag bearers. They however argue that they were not paid despite canvassing support for President Museveni, area Members of Parliament and other party flag bearers.

The municipality publicity secretary Jacob Ainebyoona and Kyetobokire village chairperson Timothy Tumwijukye say that they are uncertain if they will be paid since the elections ended.

Ainebyoona says that failure by the top party officials to release their facilitation is a betrayal.

The Northern Division Vice Chairperson, Moses Ahimbisibwe and upper Bugongi vice-chairperson, Elizabeth Ayebare faults the district party officials led by State Minister of Finance for Planning and District party chairperson, David Bahati and his Vice Peace Kakira for not being transparent about facilitation.

However Kakira, says the money was released and given to the district youth league vice-chairperson, Pamella Byensi. Kakira says that they have also received information that Byensi did not distribute the money to the village NRM chairpersons. She adds that NRM party top leaders are going to investigate the matter.

Byensi could not be reached for a comment.
