Councillors of Kaberamaido Town council are demanding for the return of land that was fraudulently acquired.

The councillors claim that several pieces of land have been sold out to different individuals and companies in the area without the knowledge of council.

Peter Aryebu, the councillor representing Ararak ward in Kaberamaido town council wants the town clerk to summon all the individuals and companies holding land in the Kaberamaido Town Council to explain to council how it was acquired.

Aryebu is bitter that instead of renting out land at one hundred thousand shillings which council resolved, some individuals have colluded to sell the land. He wants all individuals implicated in the land sale investigated and prosecuted.

Shika- Shika Idi, the chairperson General Purpose Committee of Kaberamaido Town Council says there is a lot of connivance by different individuals including members of council in the sale of land.

He explains that last financial year, council report from administrative department indicated demarcation and inspection of eight plots but was surprised to find out that two had been sold already without the approval of council.

According to Shika, a transaction of six million shillings was done in January 16th, 2019 by the former Town Clerk, Peter Erisu, the Secretary for Lands, Stephen Erau and the LC3 chairperson of Town Council, David Einyu without the knowledge of council. He claims that there are records indicating exchange of money for sale of land in Soroti.

However, the new town clerk, James Ayama says he will follow up with the concerns raised by councillors to clear the doubts.
