Kaberamaido Police are stuck with a three months baby girl believed to have been dumped by her mother. The baby was found abandoned in Arabaka Cell- A in Kaberamaido Sub County.

Janet Amuge, the Officer in Charge of the Child and Family Protection Unit at Kaberamaido Police Station, says they received information around 4:30 PM on Sunday regarding a child found crying alone in a nearby bush.

She says the child was discovered by children who informed a passersby who later ran to the Police station after finding that the child had no caretaker. Amuge suspects that the child was born outside wedlock and the mother decided to dump it after failing to care for it.

Cue out…can inform us”//

Amuge is worried of the baby’s health condition and care since police don’t have home care services for such children. Police has recorded a case of child abandonment under SDR15/12/01/2020.

Some residents told our reporter that the child was heard crying in the bush around 1:00PM but they ignored thinking that she was with her mother.

Teresa Akello, a neighbor said that they managed save the child when children took it upon themselves to find out the child had cried for long.

“She had taken more than three hours in the bush by the time we picked her and handed over to police”, she said.
