Two candidates have so far submitted, to the ruling National Resistance Movement-NRM party, their expression of interest in the race to become the Speaker of the tenth parliament.

They include Kamuli woman Member of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga and Omoro County MP Jacob Oulanyah. While Kadaga submitted her forms last evening, Oulanyah submitted his forms to the NRM Electoral Commission chairman, Dr Tanga Odoi, at about mid-day, today.

They will be vetted by the Central Executive Committee of the NRM and by the NRM caucus before a final vote to be held by all members of the tenth parliament.

Oulanyah declined to hold interviews with journalists on his intentions once he is elected Speaker, explaining that it would tantamount to campaigning, which is against the party guidelines.

Obua unveiled a three-point plan of action outlining key issues that he hopes to accomplish once elected Deputy Speaker. He says this, is the beginning of his pursuit to become the Speaker of the Ugandan parliament in future.
