The Executive Director for Uganda National Road Authority- UNRA Allen Kagina has ordered UNRA engineers to repair Kanyampara Bridge in Kasese District.

Last week local leaders in Munkunyu and Kisinga sub-counties closed the bridge that was damaged by heavy trucks that ply the two sub-counties.

Kagina on Friday directed a team of Engineers in the district to restore the bridge in a month.

Cue out: …keep the route open.”//

Kagina also said the authority has a list of all damaged bridges in the district but notes that they have been constrained by funds to repair them.

Seith Baluku, the Munkunyu sub-county LC III Chairperson, says that the authorities had no option other than closing the bridge to save lives.  He said that the bridge had not been repaired for 30 years.

Thembo Anatoli a resident of Kisinga says that they have failed to access health services at Kagando hospital and markets.

He says that the repairs should be expedited so that people can resume their businesses with ease.

 Cue out: …continue moving.”//

The LCV Chairperson Eliphazi Muhindi says the district is also struggling to restore structures that were destroyed by floods last year given the limited resources available since the outbreak of Covid-19.

He says the destruction of roads and bridges has greatly retarded local economic growth both at the household and district level.
