Kalaki District to Repeat Youth Elections After Candidates Tie

The contest between two candidates for the position of male youth councilor for Kalaki District ended in a tie after they each got the same number of votes.

David Epotu, the NRM candidate and Daniel Ebunyu, an independent tied with 125 votes each.

Epotu and Ebunyu were the only candidates in the male youth contest in Kalaki. Out of 251 voters in Kalaki Electoral College, the only vote, which would have determined the winner, was invalid.

Irene Hope Nakiru, the Kalaki District Returning Officer says the date for the residual election for the male youth councillor will be communicated after consultations with Electoral Commission

Nakiru, however, declared the results of other Special Interest Groups- SIGs. Deborah Atai of NRM was declared female youth councillor after garnering 149 followed by Esther Awuo, an independent with 100 votes as Juliet Imenyo Obote of FDC polled no vote.

For the Workers Representatives, David Okello, an independent candidate won with 89 votes, Ismael Ochen, another independent 37 and Stanley Echibu trailed with seven votes. Christine Areo, another independent was declared female workers representative with 93 votes as Beatrice Akao trailed with 36.

In Kaberamaido district, the NRM party swept all the positions of SIGs. Simon Ekwnyu and Sheila Santa were elected representatives of Persons with Disabilities, Florence Akullo and Albert Olobo will represent the elderly, Grace Junior Epiu and Joyce Akeloi will be representing the youth while Kennedy Aisu and Esther Anyiko will be representing Workers in Kaberamaido District Council.
