Don't Dare! Police Warns Kalangala NUP Protest Plotters

Police in Kalangala have told NUP supporters on the islands not to entertain any thought of holding any demonstration to express disappointmet with the arrest of their leader.

Kalangala NUP candidates have suspended their campaigns at all levels after detention of party President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu. 

Gerald Zzinga, the Mazinga Sub-county NUP coordinator announced the suspension of campaigns on the island as a sign of standing with their president. 

"We're staging a peaceful (nonviolent) strike at Nkose Landing site with an aim of fighting for justice for our candidate" he said. 

How ever, Police in Kalangala has warned NUP supporters not to be tempted to strike but to follow the right procedures. 

Yesterday Police fired teargas to disperse striking crowds in Bwendero town, Bujumba Sub-county. 

ASP Mwijukye Stanley, the Kalangala OC station says, NUP supporters should follow the right procedures before engaging in hide and run battles with Police.

Despite the local plans, Katumba Richard the NUP spokesperson says, there isn't any preparations of striking in Kalangala. 

"Justice is needed as we campaign ahead of 2021 but though Police is harsh on NUP supporter, we will overcome every situation," Katumba says.

After the arrest Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, strikes erupted in most parts of the country including Kalangala with a slogan "Free Bobi Wine". 

NUP campaigns in the Islands of Mazinga, Bukasa and Bubeke Sub counties in Kalangala District have been suspended until party president is released.
