Patrick Kabuye, the Kakooma village chairperson says that Nantongo tried to burn Mayanja with a hot knife and flat iron on the cheeks, three days after he was brought to stay with her.
Rakai police are hunting for a woman suspected of strangling her 2-year-old step son to death. The suspect has been identified as Sarah Nantongo, a resident of Kakooma village in Kalisizo Sub County in Rakai district. She is wanted for allegedly strangling 2-year-old Mayanja to death after he was dumped at her home on Thursday last week by his biological mother Margret Najjingo. It is alleged that after her husband Bulonge Ndawula abandoned her home in Kabiira several miles away, Najjingo decided to take the minor and dumped him at her co-wife'splace where his father resides.
However, decided to strangle the minor to death and fled into hiding. Patrick Kabuye, the Kakooma village chairperson says that Nantongo tried to burn Mayanja with a hot knife and flat iron on the cheeks, three days after he was brought to stay with her. He says they were attracted by the alarms made by Nantongo’s son who shouted saying her mother had killed their friend. Kabuye says he reported the matter to police but Nantongo had already fled for fear of being lynched by a mob.
Frank Hangane, the Officer in charge of criminal Investigations Kalisizo Police Station says they have arrested Bulonge, the father to the deceased to help police investigations. He says they launched a manhunt for the suspect, adding that she will be charged with child torture and murder once their investigations are complete. The deceased’s body has been taken to Kalisizo hospital for postmortem.
