Emmanuel Walugembe, the eldest son of Kalungu district LCV Chairman Richard Kyabaggu has confessed to beheading his mother in an argument over ownership of property.

Lillian Nansubuga, a teacher at-Tawhid Primary School in Lwabenge Sub County was beheaded on Tuesday, in what was initially thought to be an attack by thugs.

Walugembe, 18, had initially told police that thugs broke into their home at 2 a.m. on that fateful day. He claimed that he had run out of the house in disarray and hid outside, only to find her mother beheaded.

But Police discovered a blood-stained axe in the latrine, giving them a lead on a possible inside job. Walugembe at this point attempted to run away on a motorcycle but was apprehended.

In a police statement, Walugembe, who is now detained at Masaka Central Police Station, admitted carrying out the murder, which he however says was unintended.

Lameck Kigozi, the Greater Masaka Region Police Spokesperson says Walugembe is detained alongside two other suspects with whom they face murder charges.

Kyabaggu, the Kalungu LCV chairman who had spent the night in his second home, says their son who always fought for ownership of the house, had only returned home a day before the gruesome incident.

David Ssegawa, the Lwabenge LC III Chairman says Walugembe had become a problem in the village because he is a drug addict. He says a few weeks ago, he again stormed the home and demanded that his mother either gives him their house or the one in Kyamulibwa Town Council.

According to Ssegawa, Walugembe had threatened to kill her if she doesn't surrender the house to him.
