A suspected robber is nursing a bullet wound at
Villa Maria Hospital in Kalungu district after being shot in a botched robbery
at St Joseph Secondary school.
Paul Kayongo, a resident of Kyamusooke Village
in Kalungu Rural Sub County was shot by police when he and others still at
large reportedly tried to gain entry into the girl’s dormitory in the wee hours
of Wednesday morning.
Preliminary police findings indicate that the
group stormed the school and turned off all the lights and ordered students to open
the dormitory.
The head teacher, John Muwanga,
says the students made alarm that drew the attention of the matron prompting
her to call police, which responded swiftly.
According to Muwanga, the attackers disguised themselves as
teachers calling students for morning preps.
He however, says the students got
suspicious since it was 2am, which was too early for preps and raised alarm.
He says some of the attackers managed to get away but Kayongo was shot in the leg and police managed to
arrest him.
Paul Kangave, the Southern Region Police spokesperson, says Kayongo
will help police investigations into the attack.
He says they have launched a manhunt for Kayongo’s
accomplices that managed to get away when police arrived at the school.

Kangave says that police is holding Kayongo at
Villa Maria hospital where he is hospitalized as investigations are ongoing.
