Several students of Kampala University who were admitted to study at Luwero campus have rejected the campus citing lack of facilities. Trouble started on Wednesday this week when students mostly on half bursary from Buganda Kingdom were transferred to Luwero Campus for their studies. Immediately after arriving at the campus located at Nakyewa village in Katikamu Sub County the students rejected the campus saying it was poorly equipped.

hey stormed the office of Hussein Kato, administrator Kampala University Luwero Campus demanding to be returned to the main campus in Gabba or Mutundwe. Students who spoke to URN in anonymity for fear of losing their bursaries said that they found they found the hostels packed with students sleeping on 3 Decker beds like secondary school students and no lecture rooms.

They also claimed that when they were given half bursaries they were told that they will study at Kampala university main campus in Gabba but were disappointed when they were taken to Luwero. Kato pleaded with the students to calm down and promised to look into their complaints. But his pleas fell on deaf ears, as some of the students board the coaster that brought them and returned to Kampala.

Those who remained behind have cried foul play and threatened to strike unless their concerns are addressed immediately. Julius Oryanga, one of the affected students says that they are fed on poor quality rice and don’t have lecture rooms. He explains that students study under trees, tents and when it rains all lectures are suspended. Hussein Kato, administrator Kampala University Luwero Campus refused to comment about the student’s allegations.

Professor Badru Kateregga, vice chancellor Kampala University advised the disgruntled students to top up the balances of on their bursaries and get admitted to Gabba main campus. He explained that students admitted on half bursary study at Luwero Campus and those who want to change have to top up their tuition.
