Kamuli Councilors Petition Speaker over Appointment of LC V Vice Chairman

LC V councilors in Kamuli have petitioned the speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga to intervene in the appointment of the district vice chairman.
LC V councilors in Kamuli have petitioned the speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga to intervene in the appointment of the district vice chairman.

The petition follows the swearing in on Monday of Thomas Ndikubona Kategere as Kamuli district LC V vice chairman after he was rejected by the district council because of questions on his integrity.

He was however sworn into office by Kamuli CAO on the advice of the Minister of State for Justice and Constitutional Affairs Dr Frederick Ruhindi. In his letter to the permanent secretary ministry of local government Ruhindi argues that the councilors do not have any reasonable grounds to block Kategere’s nomination as vice chairman.

Despite this, 19 of the 24 councilors of Kamuli district council have rejected the swearing of Kategere as null and void. Yesterday, the councilors sitting at the youth center appointed a five member committee chaired by the Samuel Bamwole, Kamuli District speaker and Kisozi sub county councilor Charles Mpalabule to petition the speaker.

However Kategere has stuck to his guns says those opposed to his appointment should go to courts of law.
