Kamwenge Accident Claims Two, 3 Critically Injured

Two people have died on the spot along the Kamwenge-Ibanda road after a lorry carrying maize from Kahunge Town Council to Kiburara Trading Center in Ishongororo, Ibanda district lost control and rammed into buildings.

According to the Kamwenge officer in charge of Traffic Francis Natukwasa, the accident occurred on Tuesday Morning at around 10:00am when the driver of the Fuso lorry, registration number UBD 289C, lost control and it overturned at Kamwenge Town roundabout.

In the process, the lorry rammed into two houses, one housing a beauty salon and a bar, and buried five people, four occupants in the vehicle and a saloon operator.

The salon operator and one of the occupants, whose identities have not yet been established, have died on spot. 

Police together with residents used the Kamwenge town council garbage truck to excavate through the wreckage to rescue other survivors.

During the extraction, three people whose identities have not yet been established were found in critical condition and rushed to Padre-Pio Health Center IV for further management.

Natukwasa says that the dead have  been taken to Rukunyu hospital mortuary as investigations into the cause of the accident commence.
