Roads in Kapchorwa Municipality are in poor state. The roads in the municipality are now impassable more especially during the rainy season.

A report by the town clerk James Andrew Ocen on the conditions and inventory of roads and bridges in the municipality as of 11th September 2019 indicates that out of the 92 roads in Kapchorwa municipality only 9 roads are in good condition.

Some of the most affected roads include; School - Sumuto road, All Saints road, Barawa road, Kamaran-Water Source road and Kutungu-Kapsomo road. Others include Chelel-Reberon road, Ngujjo-Chelel road, Gululu-Chemutala road among others.

Residents in the municipality blame the poor state of the roads on the negligence of their leaders who they say have not done much to lobby for improved roads given the tourism potential of the area.

Muzamir Yesho, a vendor of Irish potatoes in Kapchorwa town says that the murrum put on the roads is of poor quality which is easily washed away by the heavy rains.

He says that he spends close to a week to transport his Irish potatoes to town due to the bad roads.

Bob Cherob, the Kapchorwa Municipality Engineer said that the interventions applied on the maintenance of the roads in the district are not sustainable.

He cited interventions like the use of the road gangs and applying the grader on roads which are not graveled.

James Andrew Ocen, the Municipality Town clerk told URN that they lack their own equipment to improve the roads.  He said that they share the equipment with the district but they have to wait for the district to accomplish their works before they are given the machines.
