Runners from Kapchorwa district have dominated the 2019 MTN Marathon 2019 in Soroti.
Andrew Kwemar took the 1st position followed
by Mathew Cheprui and Ali Cheperes in the second and 3rd places respectively.
Kwemar said that it was his ambition to win the Soroti MTN Marathon and hopes he will maintain the stamina to win in the forthcoming competitions.
Cheprui said that Kwemar was really good in the race and deserved to win.

The runners went through the Soroti –
Lira road, Serere road then back to Old Mbale road via Opiyai to Teso – Inn then joined main Soroti – Mbale road back to the
They then joined Soroti – Moroto road and branched off to join Soroti –
Lira high way and finished at Soroti Independence gardens.
The winner received Shillings 700,000, 1st runner up Shillings 450,000
and 3rd got Shillings 350,000.
Doreen Chesang from Uganda Wildlife Authority took 1st
position in the women’s race followed by Chemutai Doreen and Adero Nyakazi respectively.
Chemutai, the 1st runner up expressed joy for taking the second position and hoped that next time she may make it to number one.
She told our reporter that she is attached to the training camp of Uganda's Olympic Gold medalist, Stephen Kiprotich in Kapchorwa.
Isaiah Semamuli, the Senior MTN Manager Regional Operations
told our reporter that over 2000 runners registered for the race.
Semamuli indicated that proceeds from the Soroti MTN marathon
will be ploughed back to support one of the health centres in Teso.
The run is meant to raise funds to support maternal health in
the country, according to Semamuli.
