Karenga district security committee is demanding the reinstatement of military detachments and the deployment of more personnel as armed warriors continue to terrorize people.
According to the security committee, the withdrawal of detachments from
Sangar Sub County has resulted in a resurgence of insecurity in the district.
They also said that some of the existing detachments are experiencing
a shortage of manpower with a likely security risk to the
district.
Filbert Ocailap, the Karenga Resident District Commissioner said that
they need more detachments and security personnel to be able to deal with the
warriors.
Ocailap noted that the situation worsened from Sangar Sub County where
personnel were withdrawn from the detachments of Lokian, Cattle farm, and
Nakidir respectively.
He said that the armed warriors are now moving freely from in those areas
because of thin security on the ground.
Ocailap urged the security forces to consider establishing a new
detachment in Nakidir area which is becoming a hotspot for killings.
Ocailap said that they want the joint operational unit to dominate in
the areas prone to insecurity for swift response in case of any attacks by
armed warriors.

Cue out: “........ bringing us problems".//
Maj Gen Don Nabasa, the UPDF 3rd division Commander acknowledged the
crisis stating that little attention was given to Karenga district since it is
not a raiding community.
Nabasa said that the major focus was in the districts of Kotido, Kaabong
and Nakapiripirit where they used to register over six raids in a day. He added
that the situation was alarming and the forces had to first deal with hotspots.
Nabasa observed that the pressure pushed the warriors to Game Park in
Karenga district where they found a safe haven due to the poor terrains and
access to wild meat for survival in the bush.
He said that the forces are going to intensify operations to splash the
culprits out of their hiding grounds at the game park so that sanity returns to Karenga district.
