Four people are nursing severe body injuries after being attacked by suspected armed Karimojong warriors in Orom East Sub-county in Kitgum District.

Two of the male victims reportedly sustained gunshot injuries while two females were shot using bows and arrows according to reports from security personnel.

The attack happened at about 7 pm Saturday evening when the assailants invaded the victims’ homes in Lodwor Village in Akurumo Parish.

Oorm East Sub-county LCIII Chairperson Bruno Nelson confirmed the incident to Uganda Radio Network-URN in an interview on Sunday Morning.

He says the victims were rushed to Namokora Health Center IV in Namokora Town Council where they are receiving medical treatment. Nelson however notes that two of the victims who sustained gunshot injuries are in critical condition.

He identified victims of the attack as Margaret Acan, Joseph Omony, Aidah Nangole, and Lorajam.

Nelson says the assailants who are suspected to have crossed from the neighboring Kotido district also looted over 100 goats from the victim’s kraal before fleeing away.

Nelson notes that security personnel and local vigilantes are currently pursuing the assailants with the aim of recovering the looted goats.

He however says although the army has considered establishing a security base at Kasir in Akurumo Parish to ensure the safety of locals, the plans have suffered setbacks due to the lack of a clean water source.

Kitgum Resident District Commissioner, William Komakech says the suspects are parts of Karimojong warriors who fled the ongoing disbarment in Karamoja and currently terrorizing locals in the district.

Komakech however said he had not yet picked clear details of the Saturday evening attack adding that he was on his way to the crime scene and the health facility where the victims are receiving medical treatment.

Yesterday’s attack came barely a month after armed Karimojong warriors attacked and severely injured an elderly couple in Orom sub-county. The victims identified as Faustino Oyoo, 73, and his wife Laura Apio, 65, were attacked from their home in Labongo Otal village, Gule Parish in Orom Sub-county.

Renewed forceful disarmament exercise being conducted by the army and police in the Karamoja region has forced several Karimojong armed warriors and cattle rustlers to flee for safety in the neighboring districts of Agago and Kitgum.
