Authorities in Kasese Municipality have started a campaign of restoring sanity in the town. Henceforth, all property owners must have plans for their building approved with immediate effect and churches must stop making noise as well.
The order on plans covers all structures that have been put up in the last
Authorities are also requiring property owners to renovate
They have also stopped born-again Christians
from making noise at night and have threatened to close all unplanned churches
in the town.
Currently, many of the buildings especially those
in the central business area are in a poor state with most of them having rusted
iron sheets, poor drainage systems and other standing in the road
The town is currently undergoing road developments with the support from government and World Bank.
The Kasese Municipal Town clerk, Theophilus Tibihika says they
want to ensure that all structures in town conform with the municipal planning guidelines.
He says want to have a clean and organized town and it is against that background that authorities have issued notices to landlords and property
owners to avail their building plans.
//Cue in: “All structures without... //
Cue out: ...we had not put.”//
Tibihika added that property owners should
adhere to the guidelines or they will be taken to court. He says the exercise is not selective but affects everybody.
//Cue in: “He actually says...//
Cue out: ...and we shall follow.”//
Abudallah Afan, owning a business at Kogere road says
that the developments will give a new look to their businesses.
But Generous Ninsima, a born-again Christian is
unhappy with the move to close unplanned churches says there are no designated
places for churches in the municipality.
In such a move, she demands for compensation for the affected persons.
