The Chief Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation Gen Caleb Akandwanaho alias Gen Salim Saleh has criticized Kasese Municipality leaders over failure to woo investors to utilise the Kasese Industrial Park.
While addressing Kasese Municipal Council sitting at Virina Gardens in Kasese town on Wednesday, Saleh said political leaders have done little to ensure that the park attracts both local and national investors.
In 2010, the Municipality gazetted 217 acres of land in Kahokya cell of central division for light and heavy businesses and manufacturing enterprises. However, only eighty acres are being utilized.
He put the Mayor Kasese Municipality Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga to task to explain why financing of infrastructure in industrial park had not been included in the municipality investment plan.
Cue in: "I have not..."
Cue out: "...financing for it."//.
Saleh said it was unfortunate that the business community is working without any guidance from the municipal leadership and so does the municipal leader plan without the input of the business community.
Kabbyanga conceded that the municipal leadership has been detached from the private sector.
He, however, promised to lead council to ensure that all development plans are made in tandem with projections of the business community.
Kabbyanga also revealed that he has been in touch with Uganda Investment Authority who assured him that they were going to develop the infrastructure within the Industrial Park in the shortest time possible.
At the end of the meeting, the council passed a 59 billion shillings investment plan for Kasese Municipality.
This supplements the 119 billion shillings investment plan that was recently passed by Kasese district council.
The two investment plans await financing from Ministry of Finance to be implemented.
