The Kasese municipality Member of parliament Ferigo Kambale says the president’s pledges are overdue adding that the King and his cabinet are struggling to perform their duties.
Kasese
district leaders are asking President Yoweri Museveni to fulfil pledges he made
to the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu-OBR Kingdom.
In December President Museveni promised to build a new palace for the Rwenzururu Kingdom,
replacing the one that was destroyed during the November 2016 army and police
led raid.
The President also
promised to buy the proposed and now defunct Silver Springs Hotel as an asset
for the kingdom and vehicles for Mumbere’s entourage.
Museveni had met with
Mumbere, his wife Nyabaghole Agnes Ithungu Asimawe, and several kingdom
officials in stet house, Entebbe.
The Kasese Municipality Member of Parliament Ferigo Kambale says the president’s pledges
are overdue adding that the King and his cabinet are struggling to perform
their duties.
He wants the President to expedite the process of ensuring that the pledges are honoured
considering that the cultural institution plays a key role in development.

Kambale also asked government to consider the town's
elevation to city status, emphasizing that the recent investment of over 53
billion shillings in road construction has transformed Kasese into a more
accessible and beautiful urban area.
Gideon Mujungi Thembo,
the Busongora South member of Parliament says they anticipated these pledges to
reflect in this year’s financial budget but that has not happened.
He urges that
supporting the cultural institution has a multiplier effect on the local
community.
The Minister of
Tourism, Col. Tom Butiime who is n Kasese for the explore Rwenzori
expedition pledged to remind the President of his commitment to support the
king and his institution.
Following the 2016
clashes at the palace of the Omusinga more than 100 people many of whom were
royal guards were killed and more than 200 others were also arrested and
charged with treason, murder, attempted murder, and aggravated robbery among
others.
Also arrested and
charged was Mumbere who was barred from
entering the Kasese district, the seat of his Kingdom.
Charges against
Mumbere and the former royal guards were dropped after asking for amnesty from
the government.
