Kasingye: Police FC will not play in the League under USLL

Police Football Club Chairman Asan Kasingye has said despite signing the deed of adherence under the Uganda Super League Limited (USLL), they will not play in the League organized by the body.

On Thursday, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) officially announced that Uganda Super League Limited (USLL) no longer have the mandate to run the national league and a new company will take charge. 

In a telephone interview with URN, Kasingye, also the Director of Interpol and International Relations in the Uganda Police, said they accept they made a mistake to sign the deed of adherence under USLL, but added that they now signed a new agreement with all other club chairmen to have a new set-up under the FUFA Premier League Limited. Tasked to explain why one of their officials picked a cheque of 20 million shillings from USLL for the League this season, Kasingye said all that was a mistake and they are ready to return the money.

But USLL spokesman James Ssekandi said that if Police are not part of the USLL set-up, then they should return the money. Ssekandi added that Police is also drawn in the fixtures that were released on Friday.

Kasingye explained that as an institution they will go with what FUFA has decided which is in accordance with FIFA’s demands.

When URN tried to reach URA’s chairman, Ali Ssekatawa, whose team has also failed to sign the agreement under the FUFA arrangement and instead have their team drawn in the fixture, the official’s phone was off.  Sports Club Villa are the other team that have so far declined to sign the agreement under FUFA for the league to run under the new company FUFA Premier League Limited.

However, FUFA Vice President in-charge of the League, Mujib Kasule, has said although there is still some confusion, they are trying to get SC Villa and URA to sign so that they move forward before the General Assembly next weekend.
