Kasule: Crystal Palace Forward Ssekajja Cannot Feature for Uganda Yet

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Vice President in-charge of the league, Mujib Kasule has said Crystal Palace forward Ibra Ssekajja is not eligible to feature for Uganda yet because he is a British citizen.
The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Vice President in-charge of the league, Mujib Kasule has said Crystal Palace forward Ibra Ssekajja is not eligible to feature for Uganda yet because he is a British citizen.

On Monday Uganda Cranes coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic invited the England based striker for the forthcoming international friendly away to Egypt on August 14.

But Kasule told Uganda Radio Network that the FUFA technical committee is targeting the England based youngster for future national team engagements.

The Crystal Palace forward has never featured for Uganda since he left the country at the age of four. Kasule, who sits on the technical committee said it would be good to have Ssekajja play for the national team.

Kasule said that they are aware that they must first process Ssekajja’s papers to get a Ugandan passport for dual citizenship which takes about six months. This is a process FUFA went through with Swedish based Martin Mutumba.

He said the Crystal Palace forward is talented and a young player who will benefit this country a lot. In 2007 Ssekajja featured for England’s Under 16 team.

In 2004 Uganda had hoped to field Joel Kitamirike, then with Chelsea in the English Premiership, but failed since the country had not put in place a law for dual citizenship and yet the player did not want to cancel his UK citizenship.
