A deadly domestic dispute in Katwe, a Kampala suburb, has ended in tragedy after a man beheaded his wife and was subsequently lynched by an enraged mob. Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, has revealed the identity of the victims as 19-year-old Sharon Rukundo, a housewife, and her husband, only identified as Kude, aged between 20 and 25. The couple resided in Juuko Zone, Katwe-Makindye Division.
Preliminary police investigations reveal that the couple, who had been living together for two years and had a child, had a tumultuous relationship marked by regular fights. This led Sharon Rukundo to leave their home two weeks ago and seek refuge at her aunt's residence in Juuko Zone. Earlier this morning, Kude had threatened his wife at her aunt's restaurant, where she had recently started working. According to Onyango, Kude later carried out the threat, attacking and beheading Sharon.
The mob apprehended Kude and beat him to death. Both bodies have been taken to Mulago City Mortuary for post-mortem examination. Investigations are ongoing. The police have since urged couples to resolve domestic issues amicably without resorting to violence and also urged the public to desist from acts of mob justice.
