Striker Geoffrey Sserunkuma scored an important away goal last night as KCCA FC lost 2-1 to Mamelodi Sundowns in the first leg of the 2017 CAF Total Champions League at Luca Moripe Stadium in Pretoria.

The African reigning champions scored early through Ivorian defender, Soumahoro Bangaly after two minutes before Ricardo dos Santos converted a penalty in the sixth minute after defender Joseph Ochaya had fouled Thapelo Morena.

First choice goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan was in goal for KCCA FC despite losing his father before traveling to South Africa. The experienced goalkeeper asked the team management to let him travel. His father's burial will take place in Kaberamaido on Monday.

Sundowns continued to apply pressure in the second half and after Hlompho Kekana flashed a shot wide. After 68 minutes Sserunkuma pulled one back for KCCA FC with a fine finish. The second leg will be played on March 18th at the Philip Omondi Stadium, Lugugo.

Meanwhile, action shifts to the 2017 CAF Total Confederations Cup this afternoon when Vipers SC host another South African side Platinum Stars at the St. Marys Stadium, Kitende.

Calvin Johnson, the Platinum Stars coach said yesterday in arrival that they have done some home work by finding out about their opponents.

Namibia's duo of Henrico Botes and Benson Shilongo, together with Gerald Phiri jnr from Malawi are also part of the squad.

But Vipers SC who knocked out Comoros team Club Volcan De Moroni in the preliminary round have also vowed to make home ground count. “We must make sure we start with a win at home before we travel to South Africa,” said skipper Nicholas Wadada.

It will also be the first assignment for Vipers SC newly signed coach Duarte Miguel Jorge Da Costa. The Portuguese signed a three year contract on Tuesday.
