Striker Derrick Nsibambi was the star for KCCA FC as he netted a brace to help the team pick a  2-1 win over visiting Rivers United FC in a CAF Total Confederations Cup group A game played on Saturday.

The in-form striker netted in each half for the Ugandan League champions, while Bolaji Sakin was on target for the Nigerian side at the Philip Omondi Stadium in Kampala.

Nsibambi showed his hunger early after 8 minutes when his headed ball missed the target off a Geoffrey Sserunkuma cross. But after 16 minutes Nsibambi beat the Rivers United defenders in the box after receiving a neat Issac Muleme cross. He made no mistake firing past goalkeeper Akande Abiodun Asimiyu.

But the Nigerian League side continued to press before their goalkeeper was replaced with an injury. After 34 minutes a defensive lapse gave Sakin chance to level matters for the visitors with a well taken shot past KCCA FC goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan

After recess, the visitors returned with hunger, but the KCCA FC coach Mike Hillary Mutebi replaced youngster Allan Okello for Ivan Ntege. Later a Tom Masiko free kick was well connected by Nsibambi after 70 minutes to make it 2-1.

The home side continued to attack in numbers as the Rivers United defenders were kept busy. Rivers United had two players booked for foul play.

The KCCA FC coach Mutebi was a happy man saying his players managed to get the maximum points. “We should have got more goals because we created the chances, but now we need to plan for the next away game against the same team on June 20th,” added the coach.

Rivers United coach Stanley Eguma said they will now plan for the game at home against the same side in two weeks time.

The win sends KCCA FC to second place in Group A behind FUS Rabat (Morocco) who defeated Club Africain 2-1 on Friday night. FUS Rabat and the Ugandan side each have six points, but the Moroccans have a better average having scored more goals and conceded less.
