Coach Mike Mutebi's KCCA FC will represent Uganda at the 2016 regional Cecafa Nile Basin Cup slated for May 23 to June 4th in Sudan.
“We expect the teams that finished second in their respective Leagues last season to take part. We hope to see KCCA FC come from Uganda,†Nicholas Musonye, the secretary general of the Council of East and central African Football Associations (Cecafa) told URN.
Edgar Watson, the Uganda FA chief Executive Officer also confirmed to URN that the regional body had confirmed that only teams that finished second in their respective Leagues would take part and KCCA FC will be the team to represent Uganda.
KCCA FC are also the current Azam Uganda Premier League leaders. The event returns after it was hosted by the same country in 2014. Uganda's SC Victoria University won the inaugural Cup after defeating Kenya's AFC Leopards in the final.
Musonye said all group matches will be played in the capital Khartoum, while the city of al-Ubayyid, capital of the federal state of North Kordofan will host the other matches. He also pointed out that besides the 11 clubs from the Cecafa region, they are likely to invite teams from the DR Congo and Egypt.
All 11 member countries of Cecafa have been invited to send teams and there will possibly guest sides from Democratic Republic of Congo and Egypt. Sudan will also host the 2016 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup.
