On Friday at 2;40pm, his body was lower into the grave at his ancestral home located at Katiiti village, Makulubita sub county after funeral service led by Luwero Bishop Wilson Kisekka.
The Former Attorney General Professor Edward Khiddu Makubuya
has been laid to rest at his ancestral home in Luwero district.
Makubuya, 75 years died on Sunday night at Nakasero
hospital in Kampala after battling illness for a long period.
At 2:40 pm, his body was lowered into the grave at his ancestral home located at Katiiti village, Makulubita sub-county, after a funeral service led by Luwero Bishop Wilson Kisekka. Thereafter, soldiers of Uganda People’s Defense Forces accorded him a gun salute in recognition of his
distinguished service to the State.
Each Speaker eulogized Makubuya as a man who loved his God,
family and Law.
Bishop Kisekka, described Makubuya as a man who served his God with all his life and asked Christians to
emulate him.
Bishop Kisekka said that he was not only a legal advisor but a stalwart supporter of church activities whenever they approached him.
Makubuya served as Luwero Diocesan chancellor from 1992 -2022.
Tessie Makubuya the widow told the mourners that Makubuya wasn’t
only his husband but best friend and source of her strength at all times.
The widow added that apart from being a proud father, Makubuya’s love
for Rotary and law was immeasurable.
She thanked all the people who stood with the family and
said that her husband would be greatly missed.

General Kahinda Otafiire the Minister of Internal Affairs
recounted how he met Makubuya in 1972 at Makerere University and their friendship
grew strong till he died.
Otafiire told the mourners that Makubuya was reliable, never
lied and a faithful man. He also added that Makubuya was gifted in law and the country never utilized his knowledge fully.

In his speech read by Vice President Jessica Alupo,
President Yoweri Museveni eulogized Makubuya as an accomplished author, Don and
advocate who mentored many prominent advocates.
He added that despite his great learning, Makubuya connected
with the masses to understand their challenges and find solutions to them which
is not common among some intellectuals.
Museveni added that Makubuya will be remembered for drafting
the 1995 constitution which ushered rule of law in the Country.

Museveni granted Makubuya an official burial and contributed 10 million shillings as condolences to the family.
Makubuya left behind a widow, eight children as well as 14
grandchildren.
Makubuya was the head of the Department of Law and
Jurisprudence at the Faculty of Law, Makerere University, until 1995 when he
was appointed director of the Uganda Human Rights and Peace Center.
He held a First Class Honors Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University,
obtained in 1974, a Master of Laws degree, and a Doctor Of Juridical Science,
both from Yale Law School and obtained in 1976 and 1979 respectively.
Makubuya served as Luwero district councilor before he was elected as
a Member of Parliament from 1996-2016. He served as Attorney General and Justice Minister from 2005
-2011, Minister of Education and Sports, Luwero Triangle and General duties.
