David Otabong, the Kibaale District Police Commander told Uganda Radio Network on Tuesday afternoon that the suspect waylaid his victim, a primary four pupil at Rwenyanji primary school and raped her before strangling her to death.

The minor was on her way to fetch water near the suspect's home when she was intercepted by the accused. Otabong says the deceased's grandmother reported the disappearance of her granddaughter to the area Local Council one authorities who notified Kibaale police.

According to Otabong, residents mounted a search for the minor and found her body in a swamp next to the suspect's home. He says the deceased's clothes and sandals were recovered next to the suspect's home, a few meters from the crime scene.

Otabong says the deceased's body had marks showing that she was raped before being strangling to death. He says they picked up Omuhereza from a bush near his home where he was hiding and is currently in custody at Kibaale central police station.
