Kilembe Residents Decry Poor State of Roads

The road is used by pilgrims and other faithful to Bukalango Healing Centre in Kilembe. Angry residents say that roads only receive attention from authorities during the election period.

Residents of Kilembe Sub County, Kasese Municipality have raised concerns about the poor state of the roads in the area.

The most affected road connects Kilembe to Mahango Sub County through Bukalango. It is filled with deep gullies, heaps of stones and sand deposits.

The road is often used by pilgrims and other faithful to access Bukalango Healing Centre in Kilembe.

Angry residents say that roads only receive attention from authorities during the election period.

Bosco Baluku, a resident says the road was last rehabilitated in 2016 and has been in a poor state.  He adds that they have informed the district authorities several times to rehabilitate the road in vain.

Joseph Kachanga another resident of Base Camp said farmers and other traders are face difficulties accessing better markets for their agricultural produce due to the bad state of the roads.

Immaculate Masika, a resident of Base Camp upper explained that the poor state of roads has affected the accessibility of health services in their areas, especially for pregnant women. 

John Baptist Bukombi the LCI Chairperson Katonzi says that due to the silence of the leaders, they have several times joined hands with residents and local leaders from Base camp upper and Base Camp lower cells to open up water drainage systems. He appeals to the local leadership to do some grading on the road.

Jafari Kighutiya the LCI Chairperson Base Camp Lower says he has registered seven accidents in the last two years with the latest victim seeking 2 Million Shillings for treatment.  He says the road has a poor drainage system that has now made it impassable especially during the rainy season.

The municipality Mayor Chance Kahindo road stressed that the funds allocated to the Municipality are inadequate to work on all feeder roads in the sub-county.

He calls upon the residents to be calm as they plan on rehabilitating major roads in the municipality.
