Top athlete Stephen Kiprotich has vowed to complete the season on a high when he takes part in the 2017 Fukuoka Marathon on December 3.

“After having several challenges this year, I want to go all out in Japan and perform well in the Fukuoka Marathon,” the 2012 Olympic gold medallist told URN.

Kiprotich who is an officer at the Uganda Prisons said that after losing his mother and personal manager Godfrey Nuwagaba in the last three months, he had skipped some events because he was still mourning. “But now I have started preparing for the Japan event,” he added.

The Fukuoka International Open Marathon Championship held in Fukuoka, Japan, is an IAAF Gold Label international men's marathon race established in 1947. Kiprotich said running in Fukuoka will prepare him for the Tokyo marathon early next year and the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.

The Ugandan star athlete will tough challenge competing against last year's winner Tsegay Yemane from Ethiopia and other runners from Eritrea and Kenya.

Dominic Otuchet, President of the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) said it will be a great opportunity for Kiprotich to run in Japan as he builds momentum ahead of the new season.
