Uganda's Moses Kipsiro finished 4th in the 2017 Scotiabank Ottawa Marathon that took place in the Canadian city of Ottawa on Sunday.
The 30-year old Kipsiro who moved to the marathon from short races last year recorded a time of 2:10:49. Kenya's Eliud Kipyanui won the race with a time of 2:10:14, while Ethiopia's Seboka Dibaba came second with a time of 2:10:31.
Kipsiro started the race well and was in the front pack for long spells of the race, only to lag behind with another 5kms to the end. Kenya's Levy Matebo beat Kipsiro by one second to third place.
The 2007 world 5000m bronze medalist and three-time Commonwealth Games gold medalist told URN before departure last week that after running two marathons he is still learning the event after moving from the short races.
He made his debut at the Hamburg marathon last year and also took part in the New York Marathon.
In the women's race Ethiopia was in dominant form sweeping the first four places. Guteni Imana won the race with a time of 2:30:18.
The 2017 Tamarack Ottawa race attracted more than 43,000 participants in six races, including the Scotiabank Ottawa Marathon, the Scotiabank Half Marathon, the Ottawa 10K, the HTG Sports 5K, the Ottawa 2K and Scotiabank Ottawa Kids Marathon.
Last month another Ugandan Stephen Kiprotich finished second in a marathon held in Germany.
