A police officer at Kisoro police station told our reporter on condition of anonymity that Loki, who is currently on official leave had left a gun in Captain Mugisha’s home in Nyaruhengeri, Southern division Kisoro municipality.
The driver and an escort to Captain Peter Mugisha, Kisoro Resident
District Commissioner are in trouble over armed robberries they allegedly staged.
The driver has been identified as Ronald Mwesigye while the
escort is Gerard Loki, a Uganda Peoples Defense Forces -UPDF soldier. The duo
was arrested in the wee hours of Wednesday morning while reportedly robbing a shop in
Kisoro hill village, Kisoro municipality.
A police officer at Kisoro police station told our reporter on
condition of anonymity that Loki, who is currently on official leave had left a
gun in Captain Mugisha’s home in Nyaruhengeri, Southern division Kisoro
municipality. The officer explained to our reporter that, Mwesigye
and Loki later sneaked into Mugisha’s home on Tuesday night, picked the gun,
went to Kisoro town, and staged illegal roadblocks.
In the wee hours of Wednesday morning, the duo went to Kisoro
hill village and started robbing a shop as they threaten to shoot the owner in
case he made any alarm. But in the process, neighbors of the victim
secretly informed the police which swung into action and arrested the two robbers.
He says that the duo was first taken to Nyakabande army barracks
and interrogated before they were transferred to Kisoro police station
When contacted, Captain Mugisha confirmed the incident saying
that the suspects are being detained at Kisoro police station but declined to
reveal more saying that the matter is still under investigation.

Cases of armed robbery and gun violence are not uncommon in Kisoro
district. In March 2017, Stephen Sabiiti Semitwe, a prominent businessman in
Kisoro town was shot and injured by unknown gunmen at around 08:00 pm
while at the gate of his home in Birembo cell, Rutare parish, Chahi sub-county.

The gang first put locals at gunpoint and ordered them to
surrender their belongings.
On December 22, 2016, Innocent Mugisha, a prominent
businessman in Kisoro town was gunned down by unknown assailants while at his
home at Mulayini, Kamuremena cell, Kisoro municipality. The killers also shot
and injured Steven Yumvirusaba in the leg.
