According to the residents, Kanara gravity water supply system is the only source of clean water in the sub-county since they have been fetching water from R. Mpanga or local dams that they would share with livestock.
A newly
commissioned gravity water flow scheme is to benefit more
than 1600 residents of Kanara Sub-county in Kitagwenda District. Built-in three
phases, Kanara gravity water supply system, cost Kitagwenga district 357
million Shillings.
Construction of the project started in 2016 before Kitagwenda district was curved out of Kamwenge district with
the aim of delivering clean and safe water nearer to the residents.
According to the residents, Kanara gravity water supply system is the only
source of clean water in the sub-county since they have been fetching water from R.
Mpanga or local dams that they would share with livestock.

Andrew Baguma, the Kitagwenda District Engineer, says that
the new water system will be able to supply the whole Sub-county effectively.
He says that they will always test the water to ensure it's safe for domestic
use.
Ismail Mushemeza, the Kitagwenda District LC V Chairperson, says
that in order to reduce the water tariffs, the district will install solar-powered
pumps in the next financial year to reduce the cost of using a generator because
of the high fuel prices.
