Several patients in need of x-ray services at Kitgum General Hospital
are stranded following breakdown of the machine.
The Philips Primary Diagnost model x-ray machine reportedly broke down a month
ago and has since never been repaired.
Bezy Omoya, the hospital senior administrator says that the digital x-ray
machine broke down after malfunction of one of its important software.
He says the machine has been down for long because there are no experts within
the region to repair it.
Omoya says although they informed the health ministry through Gulu Regional
Hospital equipment workshop about the machine’s break down, they got to know
the ministry hasn’t yet renewed signing memorandum of understanding with the

Omoya says many patients who wanted x-ray services to ascertain their medical
conditions are being referred to other health facilities within and outside the

According to Omoya, cost of repairing the, machine is estimated to at 900,000
Pompeo Okello Olony 76 a resident of Labongo Akwang Sub County in Kitgum
district who has dislocated hip bone says he has spent nearly a week without
accessing x-ray services after being told the machine broke down.
Olony is among some 50 selected patients who have been waiting from Padibe
Health Center IV in Lamwo district to undergo x-ray examination at Kitgum
Another patient from Pajimo Parish in Labongo Akwang Sub County who didn’t want
to be named says he has been waiting for the last one week at Padibe Health
Center IV in Lamwo District for repair of the x-ray machine.
This is the second time since September last year that the X-ray machine
procured in 2016 has broken down.
The x-ray machine was procured by the Ministry of health from Dash-S
Technologies Inc and serves patients from the four districts of Lamwo, Agago,
Pader and Kitgum.
