Kitgum Municipal Council has proposed to embark on labelling of streets in the municipality.
The proposal is part of physical planning and urban system development components expected to be implemented under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructural Development [USMID] funded by the World Bank.
Patrick Ocan Ocitti, the Kitgum Municipal Deputy Town Clerk, says that the labelling project will be implemented using part of fund meant for Institutional Strengthening fund.
Last week, the Municipality received 487 million Shillings for institutional strengthening under USMID programme.
According to Ocitti, 64 million shillings out of the 487 million shillings will be earmarked on updating the Municipal physical plan since the current plan is out-dated. He says labelling of streets will give specific directions to help ease the movement of residents and visitors who come to the Municipality.

Although Ocitti didn’t give a specific date when the project will kick start, he says they are optimistic that once executed, it will help in fulfilling the Infrastructural development as the Municipality leaps forward to development.
Already the Ministry of Lands, Housing & Urban Development has approved the design of 17 roads measuring four Kilometres within Kitgum Municipality for construction in the first phase of the project.
The approved roads include; Philip Odonga, Janani Luwum, Lakidi, Kitgum Road, Apila road, Park Avenue, Louis Ongom and Dr Panganini. Others are Sirayo Nyeko, Daudi Okello, Oneka, Tongpur, Oyaa Hellen Dean, Hilltop Road, Tito Okello Lutwa, Tabu Odongto and Bwana Gweno 0.727.
