Kitgum district has registered significant improvement in the Primary Leaving Examinations [PLE] performances.

The results released on Friday shows a total of 221 pupils scored first grade out of 3,605 pupils who sat within the municipality and district level.

This is slightly higher than the numbers district registered in 2018 when only 153 pupils scored first grade.

Richard Kibwota Okidi, the Kitgum municipal education officer attributes the good results to a number of interventions the education department put in place.

He cited improved engagement with school headteachers and the candidates, scaling up ideas of Mock exams locally set and done in series and rehabilitation of learning environment among others that influenced the good performances.

“The various interventions we came up with helped to build confidence in the learners and the teachers. This has, in turn, helped to translate into good examination performances,” he told urn in an interview Friday.

Okidi believes that if they maintain the strategies, numbers of first graders will shoot up this year.

The district also registered 1,522 in second grade, 799 in third grade and 419 scored fourth grade.
