KOB RFC's last-minute try from Marcos Osuna earned them a slight lead against Hippos RFC of 25-22, during their first leg Rugby league semifinals in Jinja city.
Hippos enjoyed a comfortable lead in the first round, whose score closed in 14-10 in their favour. Kobs, however, registered a comeback with an early second-half try, which steered their momentum to step up for the day's victory.
It is the second time in a row for Hippos losing at their home grounds, following the 19-18 score during the league encounter last month.
Now, Hippos' head coach, Edmund Querisma, says that they registered a lot of drop balls, which their opponents capitalised on to win the game in the last minutes.
About registering promising performance in the first half, but losing it all in the second round, Querisma says that they are drafting means of maintaining a winning spirit throughout the playing time.
This, he says, will position them as an outstanding team in the league, with the capacity to defeat all their opponents in a raw, irrespective of their sporting legacies.
Hippos will be having a semifinals return leg against the KOBS at Legends Rugby on Friday, where Querisma is hopeful that their team can register a comeback.
Meanwhile, KOB's head coach Timothy Mudoola says that the players made several pre-match sessions equipped with training to win away points, which would partly advantage them at their home grounds next week.
Mudoola says that his squad is blended with resilient players, ready to win it all, and they are hopeful for even better results next week.
