Top National Resistance Movement- NRM party members in Kotido are bickering ahead of the Kotido Municipality parliamentary elections next week.

The tension came to the fore during the party meeting convened by the NRM Secretary General, Justine Kasule Lumumba at Good Shepherd Cathedral conference hall in Kotido on Monday.

During the meeting, Margaret Achilla Aleper, the Kotido District Woman Member of Parliament accused Peter Abrams Lokii, the NRM Kotido Municipality Parliamentary candidate of using security agencies against her.

She claimed that the candidate sways voters by soiling her image. She also faulted Lokii for allegedly using the Resident District Commissioner, David Modo and the District Internal Security Officer, Godfrey Wachara to intimidate voters to vote for him.

Information obtained from reliable sources in Kotido indicates that Aleper's conflict with the party candidate emanates from NRM primaries that were allegedly marred with irregularities.

It emerged that after the NRM primaries in Kotido, some pre-ticket ballot papers in favor of Lokii were found in the water pond near the Catholic Church. Sources say the ballot papers were carried and poured into the pond by a vehicle belonging to Kotido District Local Government.

During the meeting, Lokii reportedly remained silent and didn't respond to the accusations leveled against him. He neither denied nor confirmed what transpired in the meeting when contacted by URN.

"I am an ordinary Ugandan citizen, not associated with the forces; an NRM flag bearer who is on a campaign to win the vote of the people. Does this allegation come from the candidate? Does this allegation suggest that the person making them, doesn't support the party position?" read Lokii's text message to our reporter.

The NRM Secretary General Justine Lumumba Kasule, who chaired the meeting, called for a support to fights among NRM members. She revealed that her presence in Kotido was meant to resolve the internal conflicts within the party that might cost them during the polls.

Lokii is contesting against Jean Mark Aporu, an Independent candidate who lost in the NRM primaries. The duo is battling FDC's Moses Oriono Okot and Emmanuel Keem of the Peoples Progressive Party. The Kotido Municipality Parliamentary polls are scheduled for July 27.

Lokii was together with Aleper in the ninth parliament before he lost to Bildard Adome in Jie constituency. Although Aleper and Adome are NRM MPs, information on the ground suggests that they seem to be in favor of the Independent, Jean Mark Aporu.

At the beginning of the campaigns, Adome is reported to have been summoned by the security agencies in Kotido to clarify his position after he was sighted with Aporu.
