Charles Ichogor, the Kotido Resident District Commissioner, has warned newly elected NRM LC1 flag bearers against assuming office before the official term expires. Ichogor raised concerns over some flag bearers already being assigned responsibilities and honors typically reserved for LC1 chairpersons, including demanding official stamps.

He emphasized that this practice is illegal and violates Uganda’s electoral laws. According to the laws of Uganda, successful candidates cannot assume office before the current term ends. The Ministry of Local Government recently extended the term for LC1 chairpersons, and Ichogor reiterated that current officeholders remain legitimate until official elections and swearing-in ceremonies take place.

This was highlighted during a recent prayer ceremony in Narikapet Ward, Narikapet Parish, where an NRM flag bearer was given duties usually reserved for LC1 chairpersons, such as delivering welcome speeches. Ichogor condemned this act, asserting that it undermines the electoral process and the rule of law.

Cue out: "...Shall declare you as LC."//

The RDC urged flag bearers to focus on mobilizing for NRM votes while awaiting official elections and swearing-in ceremonies to ensure a smooth transition of power.
