Kwania district local government has reduced staff to create sufficient space for social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID19. The decision comes a few days after one of the staff tested positive for the Coronavirus disease early this week.

The affected staff is receiving treatment at his residency in Inomo Sub County where he is also self-isolating. Albina Awor, the Kwania District Chief Administrative Officer, says they decided to reduce staff to ensure social distancing and stop the disease from spreading among staff.

He says only departmental heads will be reporting to office at the district while the remaining staff will work from home.

“With then current situation, you find that most Local Governments are affected so we have decided to send home some staffs so that we remain with few staff to enforce social distancing so that when we need any, we call the particular staff but all the departmental heads are there,” he said.

Dr. Moses Ebong, the Kwania District Health Officer, says their efforts to trace the contacts of the affected staff are being hampered by lack of Person Protection Equipment and sample collection kits.
