Kwania Police Hold Young Man Over Fake Currency

Jasper Oling, the Agolowelo B LC 1 Chairperson explained that upon interrogation, Ayo revealed that he was given the fake money by his colleague in Amach Sub County in Lira district with instructions to buy small items from shops using the fake notes to get change in genuine currency.

Kwania police are holding a young man accused of circulating counterfeit currency notes in the community.  

The suspect is 20-year-old Ronald Ayo, a resident of Aninocek village in Abwong parish, Abongomola Sub County. 

He was picked by police from Agolowelo B village in Amongoga parish on Friday where he was found in possession of Shillings 600,000 in counterfeits notes of 50,000.

He was briefly detained at Abongomola police outpost where he was charged with issuing counterfeit notes vide SD REF 05/28/02/2020 before being transferred to Kwania Central Police Station. 

Ayo was spotted by community while carrying fake notes of Shillings 50,000. 

They immediately notified Abongomola police outpost leading to his arrest. It is alleged that the suspect entered a local eating joint where paid using the fake currency. 

He later bought a bottle of beer from a shop belonging to Gorge Olal where his luck ran out.

Edith Basalirwa, the Kwania District Police Commander, says the suspect is locked up at Kwania central Police station. ’’Yes I can confirm that we have him in custody as investigations into that matter continue so that we arraign him in court,’’ Basalirwa said.
