Since 2016, some 91 community livelihood projects have been funded and 25 community access roads opened through intensive public labour scheme to boost individual income at household level.
Kwania
district has received 900 million shillings from government to fund various community projects.
The projects funded under the Northern Uganda Social Action Fund phase III- NUSAF-III which
is directly being implemented by the Office of the Prime Minister - OPM focus
more on both income generating and infrastructural initiatives.
Some of the
notable selected projects include the construction of Aduku to Alany,
3km road in Aduku Sub County. Others are;
Abura to Atuma in Nambyeiso Sub County, Abany to Goi in Abongomola Sub County
and Akali to Inomo SS in Inomo Sub County, all two kilometer community roads
respectively.
Moses Opio,
Kwania District NUSAF-III Desk officer says that from the money received, they
will use some 328m shillings to open eight community roads on labor-work basis. Opio notes
that a total of 659 million shillings shall be used to finance 21 income generating
livelihood projects.
Other selected
livelihood projects to benefit from the scheme includes Yeli Keni-Inyer and Oribcing
animal traction respectively. And Can-Mito-Note
poultry keeping in Nambyeiso Sub County, Nen-Anyim Piggery women group in Aduku
Sub County and Can Mito Yele group in Chawente Sub County.
Opio urged
the benefiting communities to ensure proper transparency and use the projects
to better their livelihoods.

Geoffrey
Eling Owera, the district councilor representing Chawente Sub County is optimistic
that the livelihoods of the benefiting communities shall be improved.
He equally cautioned
them against mismanagement of the projects.
Harriet Apio, a resident of Aduku town wants more community projects to be financed in her
area. Apio asked government
to focus more on income generating projects since it can directly impact on the
lives of local persons. Grace Kwiyacuny, the Northern Uganda Minister recently while in Lira town emphasized total government support towards funding strategic rehabilitation projects in the region.
