Security personnel have blocked the National Unity Platform-NUP
presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi from campaigning in Kalangala.
Kyagulanyi was expected to campaign in Kyamuswa County areas
including Kachanga- Kacungwa in Mazinga Sub County, Kisaba, Namisoke and
Misonzi and Kalangala Town Council at Kaala Play ground.
However, he was blocked by the army and police from proceeding to the campaign
venues.
More than thirty NUP supporters who were accompanying Kyagulanyi were
also arrested including his chief bodyguard Eddie Mutwe.
In Kalangala Town Council, the police are currently engaged in
running battles with Kyagulanyi’s supporters who are protesting the actions of
the security personnel. Police fired teargas forcing traders to close their
shops.
Richard Katumba, the NUP spokesperson in Kalangala says that
Police has not informed them why their supporters were arrested.
