Earlier in the day, security personnel who include the police and army were
heavily deployed in the town.
Benon Byamukama, the Kalangala District Police Commander (DPC), says that they
had allowed Kyagulanyi to hold one campaign meeting but with a limited number of
people.
"Due to security purposes, Kyagulanyi was not allowed to have
more than one campaign meeting in Kalangala. This was intended to comply with
SOPs since his meetings attract many people," Byamukama said.
On
December 30, Kyagulanyi’s campaign was blocked at Kigerekyanvubu forest in
Mugoye Sub County. More than 80 NUP
supporters who had accompanied Kyagulanyi on his campaign trail were also arrested.
