The National Unity Presidential Candidate Robert Kyagulanyi on Tuesday halted his campaign procession to save his injured bodyguards.

The body guards include ASP Kato who is one of the Electoral Commission bodyguards, Dan Magic and Bobi Young.  They were injured at Nazigo trading centre where police tried to disperse residents with live bullets and teargas.

Kyagulanyi carried the bodyguards and rushed them to Nazigo Health Center III in an ambulance. They were later referred to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital for further treatment.

Since morning Kyagulanyi’s supporters have been engaged in running battles with police and the army. On his entry in Kayunga, he was blocked from crossing Bukoloto to Kayunga town to Bbaale Sub County.

However his convoy managed to branch off using the Kayunga-Njeru road to join Kayunga-Bbaale road. Much as police managed to block them, Kyagulanyi and his supporters successfully managed to make a procession in Kayunga town.

Police organized Bukeeka playground at Kangulumira as the only venue for Kyagulanyi to address his supporters.

Muhammad Sserubogo the NUP Kayunga LCV flag bearer says the government is scared of the opposition exposing their weaknesses especially highly populated rural areas.

Harriet Nakawedde the NUP District Woman Member of Parliament flag bearer says blocking them and their candidate from addressing his supporters will not deter them from voting out the NRM.

Kyagulanyi is expected to address the rally at Kayunga before proceeding to Jinja City and Kamuli district.
