Nakayinda is among the 95 supporters and campaign coordinators of NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu who was arrested during campaigns in Kalangala district last week.
Charity Nakayinda, one of the National Unity Platform-NUP party
supporters has collapsed during a trial in the Masaka Chief Magistrate's Court
this afternoon.
Nakayinda is
among the 95 supporters and campaign coordinators of NUP presidential candidate
Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu who was arrested during campaigns in Kalangala
district last week.
She was
appearing before Masaka Chief Magistrate Charles Yeitesi, to answer to charges of
inciting violence and participating in activities likely to spread of an infectious disease.
The charges stem from crowds that gathered in Kalangala on Wednesday, to meet Kyagulanyi, during his campaigns in the islands. Kyagulanyi was airlifted from the Islands to Kololo airstrip in Kampala and eventually to his home in Magere, Wakiso district.
Nakayinda, who was standing alongside the other accused persons lost
consciousness and collapsed in the dock. She was later carried out by the police officers and NUP
supporters.
Her ankles and feet are visibly swollen. Magellan Kazibwe,
one of the lawyers representing the suspects says that many of them were
possibly tortured while in detention.
He has told the
court that they will interest court in the health condition of the suspects
after arguing a case for their bail application.
Court is
still proceeding with the hearing of the bail applications.
