Policemen in Luwero district have used live bullets and teargas
to disperse supporters of National Unity Platform Presidential candidate Robert
Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine.
At around 4:00 pm, the NUP Supporters took the streets of Kikyusa, Wobulenzi
and Luwero town councils protesting against the arrest and detention of their
presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi.
The supporters lit bonfires along the Kampala-Gulu highway, Kiwoko-Luwero road,
and other roads within the three town councils paralyzing transport. They demanded
the immediate release of Kyagulanyi whom they said he is unfairly treated in
campaigns.
Kiwanuka Kizito, a NUP supporter said that the arrest of Kyagulanyi was an act
of provocation towards his supporters and they decided to come out on the
streets to demand his release.
Other supporters described Kyagulanyi’s arrest as an act of intimidation and
vowed to stage protests until he is released.

Cue out;….ali bakadde”//
The situation degenerated into chaos after the supporters started to pelt
stones at policemen in town councils who were putting off the fire. They also
threw more logs, stones, and tree branches in the roads paralyzing transport
further.
The Police commanded by Abraham Tukundane, the Luwero District Police Commander
responded by firing live bullets and teargas to disperse the rowdy supporters.
Tukundane declined to comment saying he was still ensuring peace and order in
the town.
By the time of compiling the story, policemen were still in running battles
with NUP supporters for close to two hours in the three towns.
On Monday last week, teargas rocked Luwero town council as the Police were
dispersing the NUP supporters who had gathered to wave to their Presidential
candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu who was on the way to campaign in West Nile
region.
The supporters later defaced posters of President Yoweri Museveni,
NRM flag bearers, and Independent NRM leaning candidates in protest of Police
firing teargas against them.
Kyagulanyi is expected to campaign in Luwero on 28th November.
