Kyambogo University female student Teddy Twinamatsiko faked her kidnap in order to get hostel money.

Twinamatsiko, 19, called her grandmother on September 10 claiming she had been kidnapped by strangers moving in motor vehicle UAX 802B. The student indicated she had been grabbed walking at Kinawataka roadside, Kirinya, Kira Municipality, in Wakiso District. She said her abductors were driving her to an unknown destination.

Deputy Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, said Twinamatsiko’s grandmother accompanied by other relatives rushed to Kirinya Police Station and opened a case of kidnap.

On the basis of their submission, Police started combing the areas of Kinawataka and its neighbourhood. Owoyesigyire said police searched for the alleged motor vehicle number plate and its details indicated it is owned by a Church in Mukono District.

However, Police established that the vehicle had not been driven on the fateful day. Meanwhile, the alleged victim’s phone went off for some time.

Cue out...she will be prosecuted."//

Police traced for telephone signals until they landed on Twinamatsiko hiding somewhere within Kirinya. She was arrested on Sunday and later revealed that she faked her own kidnap because her parents have refused to give her money for the hostel.

Upon further interrogation, Twinamatsiko told police that she is tired of coming from home going for lecturers and now wants to live in the hostel or stay with her boyfriend.

Police have also arrested Twinamatsiko’s boyfriend to understand whether he was part of the self-kidnap crime. Owoyesigyire said she will be prosecuted because a lot of resources were wasted in searching for a person who caused tension among family members and police for her ill motive.

The incident comes five days after a man identified as Bruno Tayebwa, was arrested for faking his kidnap and demanding a ransom from his wife.

Tayebwa, a resident of Kabalagala, in the outskirts of Kampala had called his wife Evas Ainomugisha on September 3 claiming he had been kidnapped by four people travelling in a Saloon car.

In his hideout, he repeatedly used his phone number to ask the wife to send 10 million Shillings to his captors in order to spare his life.
