The Police Fire and
Rescue Services team has finally retrieved the body of Eng. Ramathan Kiwanuka
from a 130ft-underground water tank in Kyotera district.
He suffocated to death in the tank at Kyakuduse village in Kasaali town council on Tuesday this week Kiwanuka,
a resident of Nansana town in Nansana municipality in Wakiso district
had gone to repair the pump installed in the water tank when a snap hook on
his climbing rope broke.
He fell inside and could not climb and died
moments later due to the lack of oxygen. Robert Ssebayigga, 42, a resident
of Kyakuduse village, in Kasaali town council who entered the tank to rescue Kiwanuka
also died shortly.
Police managed to retrieve Ssebayigga’s
body on Wednesday and took it to the mortuary and continued with the mission to
recover Kiwanuka’s body.

Amir Kavuma, the owner of the tank, says
that he has decided to close it to avoid causing more deaths, adding that he
will look for another alternative source of water for his home.
