Edna Acayo, the senior Clinical Officer of Lokung Health Center III in Lokung Sub-county, Lamwo District has succumbed to Covid-19.

Acayo died on Wednesday evening from Gulu Regional Referral Hospital Intensive Care Unit-ICU in Gulu City where she had been hospitalized for the past two weeks.

Lamwo Resident District Commissioner James Nabinson Kidega confirmed her death on Thursday.

Kidega says the deceased was diagnosed with covid-19 along with another health worker at Lokung Health Center III two weeks ago after they tested positive for the virus.

Caesar Oketa, a Health Assistant at Lokung Health Center III described Acayo’s demise as a tragedy for the health department in the district.

He says Acayo was a hard worker who served both Kitgum and Lamwo District Local Government diligently. The deceased had reportedly served for 17 years as a Medical clinical officer in Kitgum District before her transfer to Lamwo District.

Charles Uma, Lamwo District Chief Administrative Officer says Acayo was a committed and hard-working medical worker in the fight against covid-19 in the district.

"She was quite informative and loved her work. She took a lead in the fight against Covid-19 as a member of the district covid-19 task force," says Uma.

Acayo's death brings to two, the number of patients who succumbed to covid-19 in Lamwo District in less than three weeks. The first death was of an unidentified male charcoal dealer who passed on from Apyeta Health centre II in Palabek Ogili Subcounty on Thursday last week. The deceased was buried in a cemetery in Palabek refugee settlement.
